Prisoners of War Images, 1864
These Harper's Weekly sketches depict Union prisoners of war who were starved by their Confederate jailers at Belle Isle Camp in Richmond, Va. The sketches were based on photographs taken by the Union doctors who treated the malnourished men. Both men died in spite of the medical attention.
